White Lodging confirms POS system breach at 14 US hotels
Hotel management firm White Lodging has confirmed that it has suffered a breach of point of sales systems and has released additional information about the investigation.
“White Lodging manages hotels under agreements with the hotel owners and is a distinct and separate entity from specific hotel brands,” they were sure to note, and shared that systems at restaurants and lounges at 14 hotels in the US have been compromised between March 20 and December 16, 2013.
The entire list can be perused here, and is interesting to note that not only Marriot hotels were affected.
“Guests at the hotel who did not use their credit card at these outlets, and guests who purchased to their room account at these outlets, were not affected,” they shared, except at the Radisson Star Plaza in Merrillville, Indiana, where the property management system that manages hotel guests’ credit card information seems also to have been compromised.
The information compromised in the breach is that tied to the customers’ payment cards (name, number, security code, expiration date), so visitors to those hotels during the aforementioned period are urged to check their card statements, and will be receiving one year of personal identity protection services free of charge.
The company has promised to share additional information about the incident soon.
