Lavabit users allowed to access accounts and retrieve data
Lavabit’s Ladar Levison has announced that the users of his recently closed down email service will be able to briefly access their accounts so that they can retrieve their emails and any data that they lost in the shutdown.
Wanting to reassure those users who believe that their account information may have been compromised, Levison offered them the option changing their password. They can already do so, but the window for using this possibility lasts only three days and has already started on 7:00 PM US Central Time on Monday.
“If users are indeed concerned that their account information has been compromised, this will allow them to change their account password on a website with a newly secured SSL key,” he explained.
He didn’t mention how long the accounts will be accessible to the users, but it’s unlikely to be long, so if you are a Lavabit customer, get ready to get in, grab and get out quickly. You can start the password-changing process here.
After you do so, the download functionality will be made available for you starting Friday, October 18th at 7pm CT.
