Voting on Facebook privacy policy changes is open

As of Monday 12 p.m. PST, Facebook has opened the seven day period of voting for or against the proposed Data Use Policy and Statement of Rights and Responsibilities changes that it has recently announced.

Among the various changes is the hotly debated suggestion that user voting on changes to Facebook’s privacy policy be eliminated in favor of a seven-day period for review and posting comments that will be “carefully considered” before adopting the changes.

The social network has set up an application in which users can review the current and proposed version of the aforementioned documents, and cast their vote. They have to be logged into Facebook to do it, and they can share they action with their friends,

At the moment of writing, nearly 70,000 Facebook users have voted for keeping the existing documents, and nearly 7,000 for the proposed ones.

The voting ends on Monday, December 10, 12 p.m. PST. In order to reject the changes, 30 percent of Facebook’s users must vote against them. With Facebook counting over 1 billion active user, reaching a result that would satisfy privacy advocates will likely prove impossible.
