“Free Facebook credits” survey scam is back
Facebook users are once more targeted with messages promoting a survey scam via a bogus offer of 5000 free Facebook credits.
“Get your FREE 5000 FACEBOOK CREDITS! NO SCAM NO surveys NO waste of time no task its totally FREE this promo is available for the first 1000 persons only… CHECK IT OUT ENJOY..i got mine and it works get yours here [LINK REMOVED],” says the misleading message.
The offered link takes the victim to a fake Facebook page where he is required to post the same message he fell for on his Wall and on 4 different Facebook game pages, then “like” a number of unidentified Facebook pages.
After all that, the victim is taken to another page that claims he is “one step away from unlocking the content”:
Whichever of the offers the user chooses, he is inundated with flashing and blinking web pages, offering a great number of other “free” services and prizes in exchange for personal information and completed surveys.
“But, no matter how many offers or surveys they complete, or what services they subscribe to, victims will never receive their promised credits,” points out Hoax Slayer.
“Meanwhile, the people who create these bogus promotions will earn commissions via suspect affiliate marketing schemes each and every time a victim completes an offer or participates in a survey. And victims may be faced with large phone bills for unwanted mobile phone services and, because they have provided name and contact details, they may also be inundated with unwanted promotional emails, phone calls and junk mail.”
Forewarned is forearmed.
