Hackers steal, publish Fox employee passwords

A group of attackers who clearly have it in for Fox Broadcasting have managed to access a company server with hundreds of their employees’ email usernames and passwords.

Then they published the collected information on the Internet and invited people to use it to “ravage” online accounts that have the same login credentials:

The group calls itself LulzSec and if the note is to be believed, they are also behind the recent theft of personal information of hopeful X Factor contestants from the network. They also announced that this was just the beginning and urged users to follow their campaign on Twitter.

According to Graham Cluley, the group has also used the stolen passwords to hijack Twitter and LinkedIn accounts of Fox associates and employees, and to deface them.

“Clearly, it’s important for Fox employees to change their passwords if they haven’t already done so,” he says. “But more than that, this hack’s impact underlines the importance of using different passwords on every website that you access, and making sure that your passwords are not dictionary words or easy to crack or guess.”
