Mobile data loss prevention for corporate mail communication
With the proliferation of smartphones and tablets in the enterprise, organizations are under more pressure to keep their content secure from malicious and inadvertent data leaks. As we enter 2011, companies are looking to even further mobilize their business and use smartphones and tablets as primary work and communication tools. The increased usage of personal devices connecting to the corporate network, social Web, and SaaS applications opens up new channels for data loss, and an inherent need for IT to control how employees and devices access sensitive data.
The new Websense Mobile DLP technology, part of the Websense TRITON architecture, will control the availability of sensitive data over mobile e-mail – protecting data on iPads, iPhones, Android, and other mobile devices from loss and theft. With this new capability, the TRITON solution enables content security controls to prevent sensitive data loss via mobile devices, whether connected through cellular carriers or WiFi.
It identifies corporate mail communications to mobile devices and, with no cumbersome endpoint client or third-party software required on the device, safely quarantines confidential e-mails on the Exchange Server for access only on authorized machines along with reporting and remediation capabilities. E-mail that is not confidential will still be available to the mobile user.
“These smart wireless devices are legitimate and powerful business tools but they can be data loss liabilities,” said Chris Christiansen, program vice president for IDC’s Security Products and Services. “Protection should be about managing the content—Web, e-mail, data, social networking, not just the device.”
The TRITON architecture sets the standard for unified content security, including Web, e-mail, and DLP. A unified system, when extended to mobile devices, provides organizations with flexibility, truly integrated Web, e-mail, and data security policies and seamless administration.
