4chan users take MPAA, RIAA websites down with DDoS attacks
The websites of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and Indian tech firm Aiplex Software were crashed by DDoS attacks yesterday.
The architects and executors of these attacks are members of the 4chan user group “Anonymous”. After they managed to bring down those two sites, they turned their attention to the website of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), which was taken down today.
According to TechChrunch, the trigger for these attacks was the admission by the CEO of Aiplex software that the company itself employs DDoS attacks as a means of taking down the Pirate Bay and other piracy websites, all on behalf of the aforementioned organizations.
The goal of the operation – dubbed “Payback is a bitch” by the instigators – is to prevent users to access to these “enemy” sites and keep them down for as long as they can.
