NASA hacker loses another extradition appeal
BBC News reports that another episode of the Gary McKinnon 7 year long extradition saga is revealed: he has been denied the possibility of appealing to the UK Supreme Court. As you may remember, three months ago his attempt to avoid extradition was denied by UK’s High Court
McKinnon, who was arrested after allegedly hacking into computers belonging to the US Army, US Navy, US Air Force, Department of Defense and NASA, is exhausting, one by one, every legal possibility for avoiding being tried in the US (where he could get as much as 60 years in prison).
After this failure, his lawyers are thinking of making the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg their next stop.
There has been a huge amount of support for the hacker both at home and abroad. Many UK citizens and politicians are of the opinion that he should be tried in the UK.
Even the global IT community leans towards a UK trial – they think it unfair that he should be a scapegoat for all those real criminals that are still plaguing the Internet, since he says the real motivation behind his hacking was to find evidence about UFO existence.
