Strong demand for fingerprint-enabled Symbian phones
AuthenTec has just surpassed the 7 million shipment milestone of AuthenTec-enabled Symbian phones and that it has joined the Symbian Partner Network. The two companies have collaborated for more than five years, resulting in the shipment of more than 7 million mobile phones that utilize AuthenTec’s award-winning fingerprint sensors and market leading Symbian OS.
Fourteen fingerprint-enabled phone models using AuthenTec’s TruePrint-based sensors have now launched including NTT DOCOMO’s new Fujitsu FOMA F906i smartphone. Announced in early June, this phone uses Symbian’s latest offering, Symbian OS v9.3, and AuthenTec’s small form factor AES1710 sensor. Every fingerprint-enabled device based on Symbian OS today uses an AuthenTec sensor.
Mike Whittingham, Vice President Ecosystem Development, Symbian commented:
We’re pleased to expand our long-standing relationship with AuthenTec to address a growing market for fingerprint-enabled mobile phones that combine Power of Touch functionality with Symbian OS v9.3. We look forward to working with them and expanding fingerprint sensor technologies that further enhance mobile phone capabilities, security and the user experience.
