Updates to the MIMEsweeper Web Appliance

Clearswift updated its appliance by adding full HTTPS content analysis, as well as reverse proxy deployment to protect web servers from Malware and inappropriate content.

HTTPS Content Analysis

HTTPS content analysis allows administrators to apply all of MIMEsweeper’s content analysis and malware controls (such as anti-virus, anti-spyware, file decomposition, lexical analysis, media file types, etc.) to all HTTPS encrypted traffic. This prevents malicious code and other web-borne threats from entering the organization, and stops encrypted web traffic from hiding confidential information that can leave an organization through SSL connections to Web 2.0 services, or other encrypted traffic Internet sites using HTTPS.

Importantly, the HTTPS option also lets organizations exclude web traffic routes where inspection could expose an employee’s personal information. For example, if the web policy allows employees to use personal online banking sites, then a policy rule may be set to exclude specific sites from content scanning, but allow malware scanning, while ensuring the personal data remains secure.

Reverse Proxy

Clearswift has been working with leading developers in the Web 2.0 portal space who have long recognized the need for policy-based content security proxy to protect web servers from malicious, profane or inappropriate file uploads. Now, uniquely, the MIMEsweeper Web Appliance Reverse Proxy version delivers this capability, and allows organizations to deploy a reverse proxy to protect their web servers from malware, and can also apply full content control policies to any type of upload.

Virtual Appliance Deployment Option

In addition, following the success of the MIMEsweeper Email Appliance virtual appliance deployment option, Clearswift are extending support for “soft” appliances in this web appliance release. The MIMEsweeper Web Appliance VAW10 can be installed onto approved hardware platforms from vendors such as IBM and HP. These “soft” appliance versions may also be used in conjunction with other web and email appliances by being linked together to operate within the same peer group.
