A closer look at Eraser, a secure data removal tool
Eraser is a secure data removal tool for Windows. It completely removes sensitive data from your hard drive by overwriting it several times with carefully selected patterns.
This is a graphical overview that shows the interface and functionality of Eraser.
The main interface of Eraser is very simple and it takes just a few clicks to fill the list with folders or files you wish to permanently erase.
As you can see above, a task is easy to setup. You can have Eraser wipe a file, a folder or an entire drive. Additionally you can also schedule regular wipes in order to keep your system as clean as possible.
Eraser is a free tool that comes with a surprising number of options that allow you to customize it in full.
The software integrates into your system and is readily available in menus. This enables you to erase data without launching the main application, just by right-clicking an item.
After selecting the item you want to erase securely from the menu in the previous screenshot this is the confirmation dialog you get. It shows you how many files and folders you’re about to eliminate.
There are several predefined options. Keep in mind that the more passes you choose, the more you’ll have to wait for Eraser to finish its work.
