KoolSpan, Time Domain Join Forces To Provide Encrypted, Covert Wireless Communications

Bethesda, Md., and Huntsville, Ala., Nov. 7, 2005—KoolSpan, Inc., the leading provider of plug-and-play security solutions that bridge networks, users, and devices, today announced it has joined forces with Time Domain Corporation, a worldwide developer of Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology, to provide encrypted, covert wireless communications for military and other government sector applications.

The KoolSpan/Time Domain alliance will provide ultra secure communication by leveraging UWB with the unyielding protection of the 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with per packet keying to form UWB/AES. Available today as an integrated solution, or an embedded solution as required by customers, KoolSpan and Time Domain together enable a range of applications including a low probability of intercept and secure wireless intercom system ideal for combat missions, protected precision tracking devices, and a virtually undetectable and impenetrable wireless data network. Additional encryption algorithms can be implemented based on customer requirements.

“The Time Domain/KoolSpan UWB/AES offering features outstanding network compatibility and per-packet rotating 256-bit encryption keys that deliver market-leading protection for our customers,” said Time Domain Vice President of Business Development and Marketing Mike Cohen. “The UWB/AES network architecture requires no computing infrastructure, provides real-time hardware-based encryption, and requires zero maintenance for automatic operation and complete self-recovery.”

KoolSpan and Time Domain were selected by Sandia National Laboratories to enable a secure wireless Ultra Wideband (UWB) sensor data communication network. A real world solution, the Sandia National Laboratories implementation provides a covert and encrypted sensor network ideal for monitoring air fields, nuclear facilities and other high-value assets.

“This important alliance, based on proven real world application at Sandia, demonstrates KoolSpan’s embeddable architecture and interoperability to encrypt across a variety of technology platforms and applications,” said KoolSpan Vice President of Business Development Jeff Stern. “We are pleased to join forces with Time Domain and extend our reach into the critically important wireless communications market.”

Time Domain was the first company to miniaturize UWB technology to a chipset solution, marketed as PulsON®. The company’s PulON200® product line is available to authorized users of the General Services Administration (GSA) Advantage!â„? program www.gsaadvantage.com.
