Sophos Appoints New Global Director Of Sophoslabs
Sophos, a world leader in protecting businesses against viruses, Trojans, spyware and spam, has appointed industry veteran Mark Harris as global director of SophosLabs. Based at Sophos’s global headquarters near Oxford, Harris will manage the company’s worldwide threat analysis teams, which deliver round-the-clock protection to its growing worldwide customer base.
Harris joins Sophos from McAfee where, since 1997, he held the positions of director of engineering, chief software architect and senior development manager. A respected security industry expert, Harris was responsible for a 30-strong team covering multiple sites, including, UK, India and Canada.
“Having worked in the IT security industry for nine years, I am committed to protecting businesses against existing and emerging threats,” said Harris. “The move to Sophos is a logical career progression. I’m very happy to be part of its continuing success and worldwide expansion.”
Harris will lead Sophos’s team of experts, based in UK, Australia, Canada, and US, which issues 24-hour protection in order to ensure its customers’ networks automatically detect and block new threats. He will also manage proactive technology development, including Sophos’s Genotype detection technology, which uses forensic analysis to identify suspicious patterns and characteristics unique to either a virus family or a spam campaign. By analysing these Genotype patterns, Sophos reduces exposure to new unidentified threats and unwanted content.
“Mark Harris brings a wealth of experience to the pivotal role of managing the global network of SophosLabs,” said Dr Jan Hruska, CEO of Sophos. “We’re delighted to welcome him into the fold and we’re certain that his expertise and proven dedication will help retain Sophos’s position as a leading force in the fight against viruses, spyware and spam.”
