Blue Coat Helps Launch Industry Initiative To Establish Common Architecture For Deploying Web Applications

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 5, 2004 — Blue Coatâ„? Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: BCSI), a leading provider of proxy appliances, today announced it has teamed with APM Advisors and nine leading application performance management companies to launch the Business Policy Initiative, a coordinated effort to develop and define a common structure for deploying Web applications and underlying Web services.

The goal of the initiative is to create a system standard for properly deploying and managing a secure Web application infrastructure across business, application, network, and user levels. As part of the initiative, Blue Coat will contribute its knowledge and expertise of proxy appliances, which have proven instrumental for enforcing Web policies throughout distributed Web-based infrastructures. Blue Coat will also aid in the establishment of a common criteria for streamlining the development, configuration and distribution of Web service policies throughout an organization. Ultimately, the group will populate and distribute the common criteria to help IT organizations align various solutions.
