(ISC)2 Celebrates 15th Anniversary at RSA Conference
VIENNA, Va. – Feb. 18, 2004 – The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC)2, a non-profit international leader in training, qualifying and certifying information security professionals worldwide, is celebrating its 15th anniversary at the 2004 RSA Conference being held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco next week, Feb. 23-27.
(ISC)2 is hosting a constituent reception in Room #123 at the Moscone Center from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24 to celebrate its 15th anniversary. The reception festivities will include remarks by two of the consortium’s founders, Hal Tipton, CISSP, and Randy Sanovic, CISSP.
(ISC)2 was established in 1989 when multiple organizations involved in the information security field determined that an industry certification should be developed that set the standard for knowledge of industry “best practices” as well as adherence to a strict Code of Ethics for information security professionals. In return for yielding their individual certification claims, the founding organizations were granted membership to an advisory board commissioned to administer the creation of a global information security certification process.
“Thanks to the vision of a few information security pioneers, (ISC)2 began the professionalization of the information security industry by developing the CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) and SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner) certifications,” said James E. Duffy, CISSP, executive director of (ISC)2.
“Today, the CISSP is considered the Gold Standardâ„? in information security, with more than 23,000 CISSPs in more than 96 countries from Fortune 500 companies and top government agencies,” Duffy said. “(ISC)2 also provides programs that support our constituents throughout their careers, and we continually strive to expand the range of professional growth, career development, peer recognition and networking opportunities we offer.”
During this past year, (ISC)2 introduced advanced management, architecture and engineering concentrations for those already holding the CISSP certification, an Associates program for those who have chosen to pursue a career in information security, and announced the Academic Partnership Program that offers several initiatives to universities and colleges providing information security curricula and degrees. The consortium also launched (ISC)2 Press, which published The Official (ISC)2 Guide to the CISSP Exam, and is announcing the inaugural issue of the (ISC)2 Journal at the RSA Conference.
