Astaro to Bundle its Security Software with Toshiba Magnia SG25, SG30 and Z310 Servers
BURLINGTON, Mass. – January 5, 2004 — Astaro, a developer of the all-in-one security software Astaro Security Linux, today announced it has significantly extended its support for Toshiba’s server platforms. Astaro Security Linux will be available loaded and sold on the Toshiba Digital Solutions Division’s compact Magnia® SG25 server, the Magnia SG30 server and the Magnia Z310 microtower or rack server. Starting at $1445 depending on configuration, the Toshiba-Astaro solution combines stateful packet inspection firewall, VPN gateway, anti-spam, URL blocking, content filtering and virus protection.

In brief, the Toshiba Magnia hardware product line with Astaro Security Linux includes:
” Toshiba Magnia SG25 Office with Astaro Security Linux (from $1445) is designed for the Small Office Home Office (SOHO) market and is recommended for 25 users.
” Toshiba Magnia SG25 Professional with Astaro Security Linux (from $2155) is geared for small enterprises and branch offices and is recommended for 100 users.
” Toshiba Magnia SG30 with Astaro Security Linux (from $3795) is designed for use in small or mid-sized enterprises or remote offices in large corporations and is recommended for 250 users. Both the Magnia SG30 and Magnia SG25 are about the size of a Toshiba notebook.
” The Toshiba Magnia Z310 with Astaro Security Linux (from $7795) is designed for larger enterprises greater than 250 users. The Z series supports load balancing and high availability and three NICs allow for the design of DMZ. It is available in four different configurations – two rack mountable (one with three Network Interface Cards (NICs), one with six NICs) and two microtowers (one with three NICs, one with six NICs).
Security features contained in the Toshiba Magnia appliances with Astaro Security Linux include comprehensive heuristic spam blocking and expanded Radius and LDAP support for local and remote user authentication and optional extended virus protection subscription for POP3 and SMTP email accounts. In addition, the optional URL blocking option (“Surf Protection”) allows organizations to block non-business related content (e.g. gambling, shopping, etc.) in 58 categories, increasing employee productivity while limiting legal liability and optimizing network bandwidth.
The Firewall’s stateful packet inspection guards against denial-of-service attacks such as SYN and UDP floods, Smurf, Trinoo and IP spoofing. The VPN features IPsec with all standard authentication methods, plus the easy-to-use PPTP with strong 128-bit encryption. VPN throughput is up to 115 Mbit/s using IPSec encryption, Firewall throughput is up to 735 Mbit/s.
Other features include an Up2Date service that automatically updates new virus signatures and URL black lists, a WebAdmin tool that allows for remote administration, Quality of Service (QoS) and enhanced support for DSL and cable modem Internet access.

Toshiba’s Magnia SG30 with Astaro software is available now while the Magnia SG25 and Magnia Z310 servers preloaded with Astaro software will be available January 5, 2004.
