Datakey Delivers Integrated Smart ID Badge to US Patent and Trademark Office

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 16, 2003 -Datakey Inc. (Nasdaq: DKEY; www.datakey.com), a leading developer of smart card technology for securing e-business, today announced that it has delivered 25,000 smart ID badges to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

All 25,000 smart ID’s are equipped with contactless proximity technology for accessing the USPTO facilities, and will be printed with the user’s photograph for identification purposes. Many of the badges, to be distributed to USPTO employees, are also embedded with a smart card chip based on Datakey’s proven cryptographic smart card technology enabling use within the USPTO’s planned security infrastructure upgrade.

Datakey is personalizing and delivering the integrated proximity based smart cards to the USPTO in time to respond to the physical security requirements for its newest facility. The cards will be used by both USPTO employees to access the facility as well as by regular visitors to the USPTO building, such as patent lawyers, who need direct access to the various patent databases for research purposes.
