CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-April 14, 2003 – DataPower Technology, Inc., the leading provider of intelligent XML-aware network infrastructure announced today that it has appointed former Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO) executive Jim Ricotta as its chief executive officer and president. Enterprise use of XML, SOAP and Web Services continues to grow at an astounding pace and requires the best XML-aware networking infrastructure for the performance, security and manageability of XML. With tremendous demand for both its DataPower XS40 XML Security Gateway(tm) and DataPower XA35 XML Accelerator(tm) solutions, DataPower has expanded its sales team and opened two additional sales offices on both the East and West Coast. DataPower also formally announced the appointment of Larry D’Angelo as its vice president of sales; Larry has officially been with DataPower since December, 2002.
Jim Ricotta comes to DataPower with over twenty (20) years of experience in the networking and enterprise computing industries. Jim was most recently the General Manager of Cisco Systems’ Content Networking division and was responsible for Layer4-7 switching, Content Delivery Networking (CDN), and caching products. Previously, Jim co-founded SightPath, an early pioneer in CDN products and he served as SightPath’s CEO and Chairman from its inception in 1998 through its acquisition by Cisco in May 2000. Prior to SightPath, Jim held positions in engineering, marketing, sales, and general management at leading high technology companies that include Avid Technology, Sun Microsystems and IBM. Jim holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BSEE from Cornell University.

Prior to DataPower, Larry was vice president of worldwide sales and service at Revenio, a leading CRM solution provider, where he was responsible for major enterprise accounts that included Agilent, Bank of America, and Boise Cascade.
Jim joins an already stellar team at DataPower that includes numerous industry veterans and luminaries including board member Cheng Wu (founder of Arrowpoint now part of Cisco Systems, and Arris Networks), XML visionary Eugene Kuznetsov (founder of DataPower Technology Inc.), vice president of sales Larry D’Angelo (Revenio), vice president of engineering Bill Tao (Sycamore Networks), and vice president of advanced technology Steve Willis (co-founder at Wellfleet, now part of Nortel Networks, and Argon Networks, now part of Unisphere).
