Fake e-ticket from Delta leads to multiple infections
Bogus emails supposedly coming from Delta Airlines and delivering an e-ticket in the attachment have recently been targeting users around the world:
The message instructs the recipients to unzip the attached Ticket_Delta_Airlines_IN2139.zip file, which supposedly contains a scan document.
Unfortunately, that’s a lie – the executable infects the victim’s computer with the Sirefef Trojan, which proceeds to download further malware, disable the machine’s security features, and often make lasting changes to the computer that will not be restored.
According to GFI, among the additional malware that it downloads onto the computer is also WinWebSecurity: Live Security Platinum – a rogue AV that will pop up after half an hour or after a reboot, and will begin to pester users and try to scare them into buying a full solution.
