SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – December 5th, 2002 – SnapGear, Inc., a leading supplier of Internet security solutions, announced shipping of their powerful new enterprise class of VPN firewall appliances.
The new products cater for the needs of small to medium enterprises (SME) for security and remote access. With considerable expansion capabilities the products are ready to provide enterprise class content filtering, scalable remote management, and further enhancements covered by SnapGear’s unique “free lifetime firmware upgrades” policy.
The new products are based upon the Hitachi SuperH family of microprocessors and give the products unprecedented capabilities to address SME Internet access and security requirements with extensive firewalling, anti-intrusion, and VPN extensions (including impending VPN LAN bridging technology). Designed and manufactured in only six months, the units represent the culmination of several years engineering research while remaining free of legacy technology performance and security constraints.

The SnapGear SME5xx family, powered by the Hitachi SuperH SH4 processor, allows SME companies to enjoy robust, edge-network protection and privacy of communications. The SME530 is intended for enterprise use with VPN throughput of up to 3Mb/s – ideal as a concentrator for remote access workers as well as providing private networking between offices.
