RSA Security Receives Broad Industry Recognition From Leading Technology Publications

Bedford, MA, Monday, September 16, 2002 — RSA Security Inc. (Nasdaq: RSAS), the most trusted name in e-security®, today announced that it has received awards and top rankings from readership at several of the industry’s leading information technology publications. The awards and acknowledgements include the Window’s & .NET Magazine Readers Choice award for best third-party authentication device, a ranking as one of the world’s largest software companies by Software Magazine in its Software 500, and numerous rankings among the most important certifications for small and large solutions providers as determined by a recent CRN survey.

RSA Security was also recently notified that the company’s market-leading RSA SecurID® software had been voted a winner in the Best Third-party Authentication Device category in the first annual Window’s & .NET Magazine Readers’ Choice Awards. The awards were developed by the magazine as a way for IT buyers to evaluate and recommend the best technology products in the industry. Window’s & .NET Magazine readers were asked to vote on their product preferences in 16 broad technology categories. More than 2,300 readers voted on nearly 90 technology products.

“Few people know more about the best values in Windows technology products and services than Windows & .NET Magazine readers — the people who actually do the buying. By voting for the most outstanding products, IT professionals have rewarded excellence in the Windows market,” said Janet Robbins, editor-in-chief, Windows & .NET Magazine.

“We know that peer recommendations are important to our readership,” added Dave Bernard, custom media editorial director, Windows & .NET Magazine. “Receiving this award is an industry seal of approval.”

RSA Security ranked 110 on Software Magazine’s Software 500, a list of the world’s foremost software and services providers featured in the publication’s Summer Edition 2002 issue. The Software 500 is a comprehensive look at the software industry targeting enterprise IT organizations with software and services. The list includes both private and public companies, and is based on total worldwide software and service revenue for 2001. Financial information used to determine company rankings was gathered by a survey prepared by the Standish Group with King Content Co. and included all revenues from software licenses, maintenance and support, training, and software-related services and consulting.

“Although IT spending was slow last year, many software product and service suppliers did do well,” says John Desmond, Software Magazine’s editorial director. “Companies who can deliver rapid return on investment for their customers with focused product offerings had better results. CIOs and senior IT managers can peruse this yearly benchmark to see how their product and service partners fared. That’s a valuable service.”

In this year’s CRN Certification Study, designed to help guide solutions providers in their certification investment decisions, RSA Security certifications were ranked among the most important for both large and small solutions providers by the roughly 2,500 readers surveyed. The RSA Certified Security Professional ranked sixth among the most important certifications for large solutions providers and eighth among small solutions providers. RSA Certified Security Engineer was voted the third fastest rising certification for large solutions providers, while RSA Certified Security Professional was voted fourth for small solutions providers.

“We have a long-standing commitment to providing our customers with the superior technologies and certifications that enable them to build trusted identity and access management solutions,” said John Worrall, vice president of worldwide marketing at RSA Security. “To be recognized by these leading industry publications and their readers is extremely rewarding and one the best possible validations of our success in servicing our customers and the industry as a whole.”
