Snapgear Appoints Further Channel In Growing Global Markets

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – August 19, 2002 – SnapGear Inc., a leading supplier of Internet security solutions, has forged new alliances in North America, Europe, and Japan, and has just set up its first direct office in Europe. The privately-owned company sees rapidly increasing demand for its Internet Security Appliances. With a quarter to quarter growth rate of over 30% and increasing profitability the company is optimistic.

In Japan Snap Gear has forged a partnership with SMI Digital Security, a network security division of Sumitomo Metal System Solutions which is one of Japan’s largest system solution providers. As part of the relationship Snap Gear’s VPN Firewall Appliances have had their user interface localized for the Japanese language to simplify entry to the market. Sumitomo is one of the largest distributors in the region for security products and Snap Gear is already proving to have a big impact on the Japanese VPN market.

Matt Ramsay, Snap Gear’s Channel Sales Manager, said “SMI is Japan’s leading security products distributor with an impressive service infrastructure. Our partnership with SMI is allowing us to be present in Japan with tailored solutions for the Japanese market, it’s a great business model.”

Tom Takamoto, General Manager of SMI Digital Security, said: “Snap Gear products are perfect for SOHO (small and home offices) and mid-size companies that need broadband Internet security coupled with remote access capability. With Snap Gear we find a very skilled engineering team and an amazing responsiveness to our needs. We are confident of the Snap Gear products and of the company’s ability to work with us. Based on our great success with Firewall business in Japan, and combined with Snap Gear’s VPN appliance, we will be able to support many more customers such as home users to mid-size companies for their network security.”

In the USA, Ingram Micro and Snap Gear have inked a distribution agreement to tap in to Ingram Micro’s vast channel network. In Europe Snap Gear has assigned distributors such as NOW International (UK), Comdec (Denmark), Peapod (BeNeLux region), Black Box (Switzerland) and others across Western and Eastern Europe.

Matt Ramsay said “Our channel coverage still doesn’t meet market demand in all territories. I’m certainly hoping to sign up other regional channel partners. Our VPN appliances are the only products in the world to offer VPN tunnels between dynamic IP end points. That means a lot more flexibility where carriers don’t allow their customers to have a fixed IP address. Our new PRO+ with integrated modem gives a migration path for narrowband users moving to broadband, and also has the built-in failover that serious users are asking for. We are now shipping with URL content filtering, dynamic DNS support, and a host of very useful features that our customers gain for free because we offer lifetime firmware upgrades without requiring a subscription program.”
