Citrix and Sun Bring Client-Server, Legacy Applications into Secure Enterprise Web Portals
Sun ONE Portal Server and Citrix NFuse Classic Combination Broadens Portal Access Across IT Environments
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – June 11, 2002 – Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS), a global leader in virtual workplace software and services, today announced a licensing agreement with Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW), a Premier member of the Citrix Business Allianceâ„? (CBA). Under the terms of the agreement, Sun can market, demonstrate and distribute a portlet connecting Citrix® NFuse® Classic portal software with the Sun ONEâ„? Portal Server. As a result, enterprise organizations can leverage NFuse Classic to integrate existing client/server applications with enterprise information portals created with the Sun ONE Portal Server, providing users with central access to both Web content and business applications.
NFuse Classic software provides Web access to any Javaâ„?, UNIX® or Windows® application deployed through Citrix MetaFrame® application server software instantly without any code re-writes. Working in conjunction with MetaFrame, NFuse Classic provides organizations with greater manageability and lower costs through centralized application deployment and management. NFuse Classic is a core member of Citrix’s Access Portal product family, which provides employees with secure, role-based access to applications and information aggregated from an organization’s disparate systems and across the Web, quickly and cost-effectively.
The Sun ONE Portal Server enables delivery of content, services, business processes and applications in personalized portals for enterprise organizations. In combination with NFuse Classic, the Sun ONE Portal Server allows users to quickly and easily access and integrate both Web-based and client/server enterprise applications through a simple browser interface.
“The power of portal computing is increasingly being recognized by innovative organizations as a valuable tool for extending information and services across the enterprise,” said John Fanelli, director of product marketing, Sun ONE portal and communication services. “By integrating NFuse Classic access portal software with the Sun ONE Portal Server, we are able to provide customers with fast and cost-effective access to the critical business applications they need to operate more efficiently.”
“As organizations look to the Sun ONE Portal Server to help them build customized enterprise portals that deliver personalized content to multiple communities of users, seamless integration of applications within these portals is paramount,” said Barry Davis, vice president of business development for Citrix. “Working with companies like Sun, Citrix is able to provide customers with comprehensive solutions for deploying applications across multiple environments and devices, fulfilling their e-business needs.”
