Aetna Selects Trend Micro Antivirus Solutions to Protect Network Infrastructure at the Gateway
InterScan Messaging Security Suite Protects 32,000 Employees from Virus Outbreaks
Cupertino, alif. – May 29, 2002 – Trend Micro, Inc. (Nasdaq: TMIC; TSE: 4704), a worldwide leader in network antivirus and Internet content security solutions, today announced that Aetna Inc., has chosen Trend Micro’s award-winning antivirus solutions to assist in keeping its data virus-free, boost efficiency and increase employee productivity to better serve its customers. Aetna is using Trend Micro(tm) InterScan(tm) Messaging Security Suite to prevent email-borne virus outbreaks, insulate enterprise business and maintain network integrity. Aetna began deployment in March with estimated completion expected later this year.
Aetna observed exponential growth in virus alerts at the gateway and desktop through 2000/01, which, if unmanaged, had a potential for negative impact on the network and overall productivity. As new security threats were promulgated across the industry in 2001, Aetna conducted an assessment of its infrastructure and decided that a multi-tiered approach was the most cost-effective method to minimize the threat of virus attacks. After conducting a formal evaluation, Aetna selected Trend Micro as one of its filtering and virus containment email gateways. According to IDC, Trend Micro has a dominant 63 percent global market share at the Internet gateway, which is the fastest growing segment of the antivirus market.
“One of Aetna’s core functions is information management. We manage a high volume of email messages daily and cannot afford downtime. Our customers rely on us to communicate in a timely and effective manner,” said Alan Pawlak, Security Manager, Aetna. “We take a proactive approach to minimize threats and maintain productivity.”
Trend Micro InterScan Messaging Security Suite features a unique Outbreak Prevention Policy(tm) that enhances protection against new virus infiltration by leveraging scanning email content to automatically block email borne viruses. InterScan allows administrators to customize tools to enforce corporate email policies. This messaging security solution provides capabilities to monitor system performance and avoid any abnormality. InterScan supports multiple policy management and offers remote configuration, notification and logging.
Today, networks have numerous potential virus entry points that require protection, including email, Internet and FTP gateways, shared drives and network connections and back-up tapes. Aetna is managing the InterScan Messaging Security Suite through management tools that help administrators control antivirus programs and oversee corporate virus control policy.
