Trend Micro ServerProtect Completes Testing Under IBM’s TotalStorage Proven Program
First antivirus solution to ship with IBM NAS systems
Cupertino, Calif. -May 16, 2002 – Trend Micro, Inc. (Nasdaq: TMIC; TSE: 4704), a worldwide leader in network antivirus and Internet content security solutions, today announced that its ServerProtect(tm) antivirus solution has successfully completed interoperability testing with IBM’s TotalStorage Network Attached Storage (NAS) 200, 300, and 300G series servers using the testing principles of the recently announced IBM TotalStorage(tm) Proven program.
The IBM TotalStorage(tm) Proven program builds on IBM’s already extensive interoperability efforts to develop and deliver products and solutions that work together with third party products. Trend Micro is also announcing that a special CD containing a 30-day trial version of ServerProtect is now being provided with the foregoing NAS products.
Enterprises are embracing NAS as an efficient way for employees to store and share files throughout the organization. At the same time, computer viruses continue to be a growing threat to data integrity and system security. The cost of a virus outbreak can be measured by the physical cost of an outage, the total cost of cleaning up a virus throughout your network including personnel cost or the lost opportunity costs created through virus downtime and loss of system availability.
“Customers require an industry-proven antivirus solution and protection for their NAS systems and infrastructure investments. ServerProtect was the perfect fit. In addition, testing of ServerProtect under the TotalStorage Proven program helps reduce the need for customers to expend their own resources to test software for compatibility,” said David Rowe, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing at Trend Micro. “Building upon our long-standing relationship with IBM, our participation in the TotalStorage Proven program demonstrates that Trend Micro and IBM are working together to increase customer satisfaction by promoting greater interoperability.”
Trend Micro’s ServerProtect provides comprehensive antivirus scanning throughout the network for file servers running Windows® 2000, Windows NT and Novell NetWare®. Managed through a Web-based or Windows-based console, ServerProtect provides centralized virus scanning, pattern updates, event reporting, and antivirus configuration. ServerProtect can be installed directly to the NAS device.
Trend Micro has pioneered gateway and server-based technologies being adopted today and ServerProtect is a proven solution that has received a variety of industry awards and certifications including ICSA certification and accolades from Windows NT and Network Computing magazines. IBM customers have access to the only antivirus solution on the market that has been tested for interoperability under the TotalStorage Proven(tm) program for the IBM NAS systems.
“With the increased visibility of ServerProtect antivirus solutions to the IBM Business Partner and sales representative community, Trend Micro can have greater visibility with customers and look towards smoother, reliable implementations. This can lead to reduced sales cycles and ultimately increased customer satisfaction,” said Kathleen Smith, Vice President, Storage Solutions for IBM’s Storage Systems Group.
The IBMTotalStorage Proven(tm) program supports the ability of Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to build high-quality solutions with the latest technology on leading storage platforms as well as reduce solution design time when multiple, tested building blocks have already been pre-tested.
