Internet Management Solution for Johnson Controls
Integrated solution combines SmartFilter(tm) and CacheFlow® cIQ(tm) Client Accelerators to Enable Internet Access Management and Reduce Legal Liability
SAN JOSE, CA and SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 16, 2001 – Secure Computing Corporation (NASDAQ: SCUR), a leading provider of enterprise access control solutions, and CacheFlow® Inc. (NASDAQ:CFLO), the leading provider of content-smart networking solutions, today announced the selection and deployment of Secure Computing’s SmartFilter(tm) on CacheFlow’s Client Accelerator at Johnson Controls, Inc. (NYSE:JCI). The integrated solution combines SmartFilter’s URL filtering with CacheFlow’s content acceleration and caching to provide Johnson Controls with a complete Internet access management capability that significantly improves response time, maximizes administrative control, and reduces legal liability.
“We recognized the need to improve Internet bandwidth for our internal and international constituency,” said Mark Schoepel, vice president of infrastructure at Johnson Controls. “CacheFlow’s Client Accelerator and Secure Computing’s SmartFilter provided the bandwidth management solution we were looking for and offered the additional benefit of reducing our legal liability due to inappropriate employee Web surfing.”
Johnson Controls, Inc., a global market leader in automotive systems and facility management and control, has deployed CacheFlow Client Accelerators and SmartFilter for approximately 33,000 users in their North American and European offices. The solution is currently deployed worldwide at Internet access points within the company’s global organization. Future plans involve standardizing on the integrated solution at every Internet access location in the company, effectively doubling the supported user base to over 60,000 employees.
CacheFlow Client Accelerators store Web content locally, resulting in an extremely fast Internet experience for users and more efficient bandwidth utilization for enterprises and ISPs. CacheFlow appliances store and serve the Internet content most often requested by users, while simultaneously monitoring the origin source of that content for changes.
“CacheFlow’s cIQ content delivery appliances reduce response times for Internet access by intelligently storing content closer to users,” said Charles Dauber, vice president of product marketing and management at CacheFlow, “By deploying integrated SmartFilter software on CacheFlow appliances, organizations now have a way to manage and control which users can have access to what content, making the Internet a productive business tool and reducing legal liability by eliminating inappropriate content from the workplace.”
SmartFilter, the world’s first URL filtering software, enables organizations to build and enforce sophisticated Web-usage policies. Users can be denied access to specific Web sites, or coached within their browser session about the organization’s acceptable-use standards. SmartFilter’s international Control List, updated continuously, categorizes millions of Web sites into selectable groups, including gambling, sex and MP3. The powerful Cyfin® Reporter performs detailed analysis on all Web-surfing activity and generates management-ready reports. Organizations reduce their legal liability, and can realize an immediate return on investment as a result of increased productivity and recaptured network bandwidth.
“This is another example of Secure’s commitment to partnering with industry leaders to provide e-business solutions to large enterprise customers,” said Chris Peterson, vice president of global channel and OEM sales at Secure Computing. “The combination of CacheFlow appliances and SmartFilter provide organizations with a valuable tool for managing Internet bandwidth and usage to improve performance and reduce unproductive and unnecessary Web surfing.”
