Secunet Security Networks AG Establishes U.S. Presence With Opening of Seculab
Austin-based Operation is World’s Only Common Criteria Testing Lab Accredited for Both American and European IT Security Evaluations
AUSTIN, Texas, April 2 /PRNewswire/ — Germany’s secunet Security Networks AG, one of Europe’s leading IT security service companies, announced today its entry into the U.S. market with the opening of Seculab, Inc., headquartered in Austin, Texas.
Seculab is one of only five Common Criteria testing labs in the United States accredited by the National Security Agency (NSA) and National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST). Seculab is the world’s only Common Criteria lab accredited in both the United States and Europe.
In addition to Common Criteria testing, Seculab provides IT security consulting services and has access to secunet’s global network of security experts. Seculab offers client companies services that include security audits, vulnerability assessments and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) consulting and implementation.
“Seculab is a young company but is part of an organization with more than 240 internationally recognized security experts on staff around the world,” said Seculab CEO Roland Mueller. Mueller also serves as Chairman of Germany’s Standardization Body (DIN) on Security Techniques and leads the German delegation to the International Standardization Organization (ISO). secunet AG has performed IT security services for many global Fortune 500 companies, including BMW, Deutsche Telekom, SAP, Credit Suisse and many others. And, in America Seculab has acquired MasterCard, Daimler-Chrysler and IBM-Tivoli as customers.
Common Criteria testing is the independent, third-party testing and verification of IT products for vendors and end-users. Based on an international ISO Standard and recognized in 14 countries, the Common Criteria assures products meet the highest international IT security requirements. U.S. technology companies that sell IT products to the federal government will be required to meet this common set of criteria for technologies used in handling sensitive data. Companies complying with the criteria are now given preference in government purchasing. By July 2002, companies that do not have Common Criteria certification may be unable to sell their IT products to the government.
As part of its launch, Seculab has moved into new and larger offices in North Austin and begun searching for top talent to assist the company in marketing to U.S. companies.
