Sybari Launches Antigen Antivirus Protection for Lotus Notes and Domino
ORLANDO, Fla.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jan. 15, 2001–Sybari Software, Inc., the premier antivirus and security specialist for groupware solutions, today announced the release of Antigen 6 for Lotus Notes and Domino, the next generation in antivirus protection for groupware.
“Sybari has drawn upon its deep knowledge of Lotus Notes and Domino to deliver a solution which solves the crucial problems which hinder existing antivirus products today,” said Tom Buoniello, vice president of product management for Sybari Software, Inc. “The goal of this product is to deliver a ‘no compromise’ solution to virus threats without sacrificing the reliability or performance of Lotus Notes.”
Numerous radical advanced features have been implemented in Antigen 6 for Lotus Notes and Domino. The most significant is Sybari’s new Incremental CODEC technology, which enables both reading and writing to supported file object formats. For example, a MS Word document inside a Zip file that is inside a compressed Notes file attachment, can be scanned and cleaned without creating a temporary disk file or using excessive amounts of memory. In addition, it is able to simultaneously minimize the CPU impact of adding anti-virus protection to a Notes environment. Other features include:
– In-memory scanning
– Intelligent redirector
– Multiple scan engine support
– Attachment filtering
– Active content blocking
– Engine crash protection
– Immediate updates to configuration
– Full R5 support
– Native Notes MIME format scanning
The highly efficient approach used by Antigen to perform virus scanning is now being extended with Content management features. These features will apply to both real-time and message scanning jobs that can be created with Antigen. The initial features supported by Antigen will be:
– Attachment Filtering — allows the Notes administrator to delete
and/or quarantine file attachments that are entering or leaving
their environment. The administrator can list a specific
attachment name, use wild cards or block files based on type, such
as all MS Word documents or executables, regardless of file name
or the extension.
– Active Content Blocking — allows active content embedded in
messages and documents to be selectively removed. Active content
includes hotspots, buttons, java applets, ActiveX controls,
hotlinks, and others that may be leveraged by a malicious attack.
“With Notes as one of the leading messaging platforms in today’s market, we felt it necessary to provide users of this comprehensive groupware environment with a superior full-featured antivirus solution,” said Robert Wallace, president and CEO of Sybari Software, Inc. “We have a profound understanding of Notes and listen to our users. It is this understanding that has enabled us to turn out Antigen 6 — an antivirus solution that surpasses the competition.”
