Awake Security appoints Kevin Mandia to its board of directors
Awake Security, the only advanced network traffic analysis (NTA) company that delivers a privacy-aware solution, announced the appointment of Kevin Mandia, CEO of FireEye, to its board of directors.
“Kevin has had a material impact in shaping the security industry by being in the trenches with security teams as they respond to incidents. Understanding how the attackers operate has helped him build teams of experts that have come to the aid of numerous organizations across the globe,” said Rahul Kashyap, CEO of Awake Security.
“Awake similarly takes an understanding of the attacker’s tactics, techniques, and procedures, and through the power of artificial intelligence, autonomously uncovers behaviors and threats that are often overlooked today. Kevin’s experience will be invaluable as we continue to scale our cerebral network traffic analysis solution and enable security defenses.”
With more than 20 years of experience, Mandia is an internationally recognized expert in the field of information security. He has served as FireEye’s chief executive officer since June 2016 and was previously president of FireEye from February 2015 until June 2016.
Mandia joined FireEye as senior vice president and chief operating officer in December 2013 when FireEye acquired Mandiant, the company he founded in 2004. Prior to that, he built the computer forensics and investigation group at Foundstone. Mandia was also an officer in the United States Air Force and served as a computer security officer at the Pentagon.
“The sophistication and complexity of today’s cyberattacks are designed to evade security solutions by blending into normal activity,” said Mandia.
“Awake is working to deliver a transformative behavioral analytics-based approach that can detect and prevent this kind of malicious activity from turning into a full-scale breach. I am happy to bring my experience to bear with them in this journey.”
Mandia’s addition to the Awake Security board reflects the company’s momentum, ability to attract high quality individuals, and develop world class solutions. Earlier this year, Awake was recognized as a Best Place to Work by both Inc. Magazine and the San Francisco Business Times.
The company also recently won the SINET 16 Innovator Award, a Gold Edison Award for Best New Cybersecurity Product, was ranked as the #1 security solution being evaluated by Global 1000 Companies by Enterprise Technology Research, and was recognized by Business Insider as one of the most promising cybersecurity companies this year.
Awake was also named in Gartner’s first market guide for network traffic analysis.
