Secure Thingz and Data I/O collaborate to deliver IoT provisioning platform
Secure Thingz and Data I/O Corporation announced their collaboration to deliver a secure provisioning solution for the new SAM L11 MCU family from Microchip Technology.
This solution gives Microchip a secure and scalable platform to enable the rapid growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) market and its need for security.
According to ABI Research, by 2022, an estimated 70% of the world’s 57 billion connected devices will be targeted for the IoT.
Microchip, Secure Thingz and Data I/O recognize that enabling the security needed to support the IoT growth takes collaboration among silicon vendors, OEMs, and other members of the supply ecosystem for easier delivery and implementation through an end-to-end solution that starts with secure elements and security MCUs, and incorporates secure development, manufacturing and downstream provisioning.
Microchip’s new SAM L11 MCU is based on the Arm Cortex-M23 core, with the SAM L11 featuring Arm TrustZone for Armv8-M, a programmable environment that provides hardware isolation between certified libraries, IP and application code.
The secure provisioning solution is built upon the Secure Thingz’ Secure Deploy architecture, which is integrated into the Data I/O SentriX security provisioning platform.
“IoT security requirements are rapidly growing to meet the demands of industry best practices and forthcoming legislation, including concepts around secure supply chains and advanced identity provisioning,” said Haydn Povey, CEO of Secure Thingz.
“Enabling this security takes a robust ecosystem and knowledgeable partners. We are pleased to work with Microchip to help bring its low-cost, high-security SAM L11 MCU to market more quickly through our secure provisioning solution with Data I/O, and ensure it can be supported across the product lifecycle.”
“As attacks on Internet-of-Things increase, IoT OEMs of all sizes must have a cost-effective and integrated method to enable hardware-based security from product design through manufacturing,” said Anthony Ambrose, president and CEO of Data I/O Corporation.
“Data I/O is excited to partner with Secure Thingz and Microchip to enable security provisioning for the Microchip SAM L11 MCU on the SentriX platform. Because SentriX is deployed at distributors and programming centers, security provisioning is available to OEMs of all size and volume with no minimum order quantities.”
“The growth of IoT nodes is happening so fast that security is not always addressed,” said Rod Drake, vice president of Microchip’s MCU32 business unit.
“The features of the SAM L11 are exactly what customers need to plan for security early in the design cycle, and our partnership with Secure Thingz and Data I/O enables our customers to get secure products into the market more quickly.”
The Secure Thingz Secure Deploy Architecture
The Secure Deploy architecture is an integrated solution for delivering the supply chain of trust. The Secure Deploy architecture has been designed to enhance and simplify security implementations across the lifecycle of product creation, manufacturing, and management.
This enables organizations to build upon secure foundations to protect their intellectual property across the life cycle of their products.
The Data I/O SentriX Secure Provisioning Platform
Data I/O’s SentriX platform is a comprehensive, flexible and cost-effective system to provision roots of trust in security conscious markets such as automotive and IoT. The SentriX platform provisions secure elements, authentication ICs and security microcontrollers one device at a time.
This enables customers to take advantage of the latest silicon-enabled security features without disruptive change to their production and logistics flows.
