Festive but fake UPS notification leads to fake AV

Fake UPS delivery notifications hit inboxes with regularity during the entire year, and usually don’t need “special effects” to trick users into downloading malware hidden in the attachment.

Still, adding a bit of festive details and clipart to the fake notices delivered around the major holidays must improve the download rate at least a bit, or the malware peddlers wouldn’t use them.

GFI warns users not to fall for the cheerful and inviting notification below, as you might end up with malware on your system.

“Depending on the spam campaign you happen to stumble upon, you’ll most likely be redirected through a collection of websites before arriving at your final destination which in this case happens to be Fake AV – specifically, System Progressive Protection,” says Chris Boyd.
