EFF teaches how to file FOIA requests

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has announced a new project that should make it easier for interested parties to search for information the organization received following their Freedom of Information Act requests, and to file their own requests.

“From cell phone location tracking, the use of surveillance drones, secret interpretations of electronic surveillance law, and the expanding use of biometrics, EFF wants to hold the government accountable and uphold your digital rights,” they pointed out.

“To that aim, EFF’s Transparency Project is dedicated to using federal and state freedom of information laws, the courtroom, and our megaphone to shine light on government activities.”

The project’s page also contains information on U.S. government agencies, background information on the history of government transparency and the Freedom of Information Act, a list of FOIA requests sent out by the EFF and the “transparency victories” they achieved so far.

Finally, there is also a “FOIA How To” page that explains in great detail how to go about sending a FOIA request to any of the listed agencies and what these requests should include, as well as additional helpful sources about the matter.
