Pirate Bay’s Svartholm arrested for hacking, not piracy

Well, as it turns out, the recent arrest of Pirate Bay co-founder Gottfrid Svartholm in Cambodia is a consequence of a “crime related to information technology,” but it’s not because he didn’t present himself to begin serving the one-year-long prison stint he was sentenced to in 2009.

According to Torrent Freak, the 27-year-old co-founder of file-sharing site The Pirate Bay was arrested in connection to the alleged hacking of Swedish IT company Logica, which ended with the leakage of some 9,000 Swedes’ tax numbers.

Apart from Svartholm, two other individuals have been previously arrested in Sweden on suspicion of having participated in the attack in 2010. One of them is a member of Piratbyran, the Swedish organization that was involved in the founding of The Pirate Bay.

Svartholm is currently detained at the Cambodian’s interior ministry’s counter terrorism department, and will be deported to Sweden in due course.
