Risky password habit exposed
Over 70% of online users memorize the passwords they use to access secure websites rather than record them on paper or digitally according to a recent survey conducted by mSeven Software.
In the same survey, over 75% of the respondents said they access more than 10 websites using their passwords.
“Either these individuals have better-than-average memories or many are using a small number of passwords for all of the secure websites they access,” said David Pfeiffer, Marketing Director of mSeven Software. “The habit of using a few passwords for potentially dozens of websites is risky should any of those websites be compromised, such as the breach that recently occurred at LinkedIn and Yahoo!”
In fact, nearly 50% of survey respondents admitted they use fewer than four passwords to gain access to all of their protected websites.
