Rising malware threat for banking credentials
AhnLab cautioned against increasing variations of SpyEye trojan and ZeuS bot that attempt to steal personal banking information all over the world.
Lately, the AhnLab Security Emergency Response (ASEC) announced that they identified the distribution of new variation of SpyEye and ZitMo (Zeus-in-the-mobile).
The new variation of ZitMo, identified in mid of June, which works in Android environment, is designed to collect incoming SMS messages, phone number, device ID, the version of OS and other hardware data from infected devices, and send them to specific C&C servers.
When the victim downloads the malicious application from the third party application market, it creates blue shield icon with the name “Android Security Suite Premium’, disguising itself as security software.
The new variation of SpyEye Trojan, identified early in June, is expected to base on source code of SpyEye as it works similar to traditional SpyEye malware.
Once it is installed, it downloads another malicious file to steal username and password to login to specific German bank’s internet banking page, via encrypted communication with C&C server which is located in Germany. This malware also disables the warning functions of Firefox.
