Privacy trends affecting security

In this podcast recorded at the RSA Conference 2012, Gant Redmon, VP of Business Development and General Counsel at Co3 Systems, talks about future privacy laws and trends affecting security.

He believes that the release of the Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights and the White House backing it is a foreshadowing of future legislations concerning privacy, and believes they will include the principles of transparency and access, and possibly even the European concept of the “right to be forgotten.”

He also shares his view on how the implementation of these laws will affect network managers, explains the technical challenges it will present them with, and gives some good advice on how to solve them.

Gant Redmon has practiced law for nineteen years; fifteen of those years as in-house counsel for security software companies. Prior to joining Co3 Systems, Gant was General Counsel of Arbor Networks, now part of the Danaher Corporation.

Gant has also been Counsel at Authentica (sold to RSA/EMC) and AXENT Technologies (sold to Symantec). In 1997, Gant was appointed membership on the President Clinton’s Export Counsel Subcommittee on Encryption (PECSENC). Gant holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Wake Forest University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia, and is admitted to practice law in Virginia and Massachusetts.
