NAC system PacketFence 3.0 released
PacketFence is a fully supported, trusted, free and open source network access control (NAC) system. Boasting a feature set including a captive-portal for registration and remediation, centralized wired and wireless management, 802.1X support, layer-2 isolation of problematic devices, integration with the Snort IDS and the Nessus vulnerability scanner; PacketFence can be used to effectively secure networks – from small to very large heterogeneous networks.
PacketFence is an unobtrusive solution that works with equipment from many vendors (wired or wireless) such as Cisco, Aruba, ExtremeNetworks, Juniper Networks, Nortel/Avaya, Hewlett-Packard, Meru Networks, Foundry/Brocade, Enterasys, Accton/Edge-corE/SMC, 3Com, D-Link, Intel, Dell, Aerohive, Motorola and many more.
New features in 3.0
PacketFence 3.0 boosts improvements in guests management – allowing everyone to easily bring their own devices on your network. Guests accounts can be self-provisioned and validated by email or SMS and bulk creations or imports of guests is now supported. PacketFence’s captive portal was redesigned to provide a much more modern user interface.
PacketFence can now also be deployed inline – allowing the solution to secure accesses for unmanageable equipment. The new ZEN (“Zero Effort NAC”) virtual appliance uses the inline mode by default and can be deployed in minutes within your network! RADIUS accounting is now also supported allowing PacketFence to track device bandwidth usage.
