“Guy kills girlfriend” Facebook scam

The latest Facebook scam counts on sheer morbid curiosity:

According to Naked Security, variations of the same scam have been spotted propagating during the last few days and – predictably – the link takes the users to a Facebook page that supposedly offers a link to the news story.

Unfortunately for these users, to access the story they have to install a rogue application and allow it to access their Facebook profile – which the application promptly does and posts the same message the users fell for in the first place as their status message.

Victims of this and similar scams are advised to delete the application and any messages it may have posted or sent in their name. Also, to be more careful and not allow their curiosity to blind their judgement when the next “OMG! I can’t believe it!” scam pops up on their friends’ Wall.
