Thief returns stolen laptop contents to owner
A surprising case of theft has been recorded in Sweden – a thief stole a laptop belonging to a university professor, but “returned” its contents to the victim via a USB delivered by post a week later.
Because he didn’t back up any of it, the professor was more distraught about losing all the material he’s been working on for ten years then about the theft of the device.
According to the Telegraph, the professor had unwisely put the bag with the laptop behind a door on the stairwell of his apartment building, while he popped in the building’s laundry room. When he returned, the bag and its contents were gone.
But a short while later, this unusual thief had returned the bag. “The backpack was there again. With all the papers, calendar and credit cards. It was just the computer that was missing,” the professor said, then commented: “This story makes me feel hope for humanity.”
