A closer look at VIPRE Antivirus + Antispyware 3.1.2842

VIPRE Antivirus + Antispyware by Sunbelt Software is a software solution that combines antivirus, antispyware and anti-rootkit technology. It analyzes malware in real-time, in a secured memory “lock box” that emulates Windows. Its Active Protection works inside the Windows kernel, watching for malware and stopping it before it has a chance to execute on your system.

The installation process is simple and straightforward. After restarting your machine and starting the software, you are presented with a Setup Wizard that can assist you in configuring various actions: entering proxy server configuration (if you’re using one), enabling Active Protection, setting up automatic updates and downloading and applying current risk definitions:

The software offers the usual scan options: Quick, Deep, Custom. Additional settings can be selected for all scans:

Unfortunately, during scanning you are not given an estimated time of completion. But, you can use other features in VIPRE while the computer is being scanned.

You can do what you want with the found files – quarantine, remove or allow them. You can learn about every threat by clicking on the Risk Details button.

All the things you set up with the Setup Wizard at the beginning, you can change now by opening the one of the 5 items on the left part of the Main window:

The tabs in the upper par of the window let you access the Manage options, in which you can choose to view the Quarantine section – from which you can restore malicious files, or delete them from the computer permanently. You can set up a whitelist and a blacklist, schedule scans and view past reports.

The solution offers also some handy tools: a Secure File Eraser, a History Cleaner and a PC Explorer that shows you settings that are normally hidden:
