Skype users targeted by Koobface look-alike

Trend Labs warn about a seeming Koobface variant – TROJ_VILSEL.EA – that targets Skype. It steals information from the user’s Skype profile: login credentials, contact list, phone numbers, etc. It also sends messages which contain links to domains that house copies of the variant to people on that contact list.

Here is a screenshot of the various random messages that are sent around in the hopes of convincing someone follow the link and get infected:

Actually, the malware in question doesn’t really belong to the Koobface malware family – it just exhibits similar behavior. Luckily, access to the malicious domains has already been blocked.
