A closer look at AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.5
AVG Free Edition is a well-known antivirus protection tool and is available free of charge to home users for the life of the product. Highlights include automatic update functionality, the AVG Resident Shield, which provides real-time protection as files are opened and programs are run, free Virus Database Updates and AVG Virus Vault for safe handling of infected files.
After installing the program and restarting Windows, a small icon for it will appear in the System Tray. Double-click it to open the AVG user interface, which opens by default on the Overview tab that shows all the security components and their status:
By double-clicking each component you can check in detail its status or make modifications (for example, Resident Shield options):
