Guide to Online Antivirus Solutions Part 8: CA Online Virus Scanner
Internet connections are getting faster every day, so online antivirus solutions transformed from proof of concepts into actual quality security services. Lately I have been playing with some leading online antivirus products and here are my thoughts.
Previously covered online antivirus solutions include:
- Panda Security NanoScan and TotalScan
- Trend Micro’s HouseCall
- Kaspersky Online Scanner
- Norman SandBox Malware Analyzer
- BitDefender Online Scanner
- ESET Online Scanner
- F-Secure Online Virus Scanner
CA Online Virus Scanner is a part of the company’ Security Advisor web site, where you can get latest malware alerts, as well as scan your computer for spyware.
The user interface is very simple and the application offers just the basic possibilities such as scan, cure and delete.
You can set scanning for both hard drives, partitions or specific directories.
Scanning process was rather fast, approx. 5-10 minutes for more than 40,000 files.
No viruses found. When a virus is found, you will get its name and option of checking the CA database for its specifics.
In this case, the database wasn’t showing any information. There is a slight bug over here. When you click on the found virus, the description opens in the same browser window, so when you try the back button to chose the file’s faith, the results are removed and you need to start the scan once again.
In this case, disinfection wasn’t possible, so…
… I used the “Delete” button to remove the file from my computer. As you can see CA has a very straightforward application that is one of the rare ones that offers cure/delete options.
