Trend Micro Enhances Multi-layered Anti-Spyware Protection for Enterprises Introduces InterScan Web Security Appliance
Cupertino, CA — February 27, 2006 — Trend Micro Incorporated, (TSE: 4704, NASDAQ: TMIC), a leader in network antivirus and content security software and services, today announced the availability of its InterScanâ„? Web Security Appliance, a new gateway-based hardware solution with unique capabilities designed to provide enterprise organizations with comprehensive front-line protection against malware and content security threats.
The InterScan Web Security Appliance represents the latest addition to the company’s market-leading gateway security arsenal, and it strengthens the company’s multi-layered approach to protecting enterprise organizations against spyware and other threats. The appliance acts as the first line of defense against threats like spyware, grayware, viruses, and phishing. It offers the unique ability to trigger automatic agentless endpoint cleanup via collaboration with Trend Microâ„? Damage Cleanup Services. It also provides malware detection and blocking, URL filtering, anti-phishing, and other features to prevent threats like spyware from entering the network.
Overall, the appliance extends the benefits of Trend Micro’s Enterprise Protection Strategy. It gives business organizations a greater choice in gateway protection, introducing an easy-to-deploy hardware option that complements Trend Micro’s award-winning software-based InterScan offerings. In addition, the InterScan Web Security Appliance can work with Trend Micro’s various standalone and integrated anti-spyware solutions, such as Trend Microâ„? Anti-Spyware Enterprise Editionâ„? and OfficeScanâ„?, to provide a flexible, multi-layered security solution that defends every end point in a business network – from Internet gateways to Web servers to desktops.
“InterScanâ„? Web Security Appliance is easy to install and configure,” said Paul Kim, infrastructure manager of the IT department for Coca Cola Korea Bottling Company, Ltd. “Moreover, it is much more effective than desktop-only security with integrated anti-spyware, antivirus, anti-phishing, and URL filtering at the Internet gateway. The deployment of Trend Micro’s truly integrated Web security solution allows us to rest easy about emerging malware and Internet threats.”
The arrival of InterScan Web Security Appliance occurs at a time when spyware and many other content security threats are presenting daunting challenges for IT organizations and end users. For instance, in July 2005 Trend Micro conducted a global survey of enterprise end users that revealed 39 percent of respondents felt that IT could do more to prevent them from falling victim to spyware and phishing. That same year, a survey conducted by IDC revealed that spyware was considered the second greatest security threat among enterprise organizations.
“We are the only vendor to tackle the full lifecycle of spyware with a multi-layered approach across the enterprise network,” said Max Cheng, executive vice president and general manager of Trend Micro’s enterprise business segment. “This layered approach allows us to prevent, detect, block, and clean spyware as well as other grayware and malware as part of a comprehensive solution for large companies. This appliance gives our customers additional ammunition – and greater choice – for protecting their IT investments and end users from spyware and other harmful threats.”
