NFR Security Releases the Industry’s First Intrusion Prevention System with Dynamic Shielding Capabilities

ROCKVILLE, MD, September 26, 2005 – NFR Security, Inc., the leader in Real-Time Threat Protectionâ„?, today announced the general availability of Sentivistâ„? 5.0, the industry’s first intrusion prevention system (IPS) that includes the Dynamic Shielding Architectureâ„? (DSA), a technology that dynamically predicts and protects threat points on the network, including critical vulnerabilities and unsanctioned network changes. The company also announced today new features within Sentivist 5.0 which together with the Dynamic Shielding Architecture deliver the next generation of network security that is Aware, Adaptive and Actionableâ„?. “The security incidents that have occurred during the past twelve months have been a good indicator that the threat landscape has clearly evolved,” said Andre Yee, President and CEO of NFR Security. “Security managers need solutions that go beyond protection against worms to give them comprehensive security for their networks. Sentivist with Dynamic Shielding takes away the uncertainty of unauthorized network changes and provides a network environment that is aware, adaptive and actionable.” The Sentivist Dynamic Shielding Architecture automatically recognizes attack threat points and dynamically protects those threat points from inevitable attacks. This new feature within Sentivist provides essential information to the security manager to protect their networks in real-time, including alerts on all critical vulnerabilities and their associated applications, and alerts on any changes that have occurred on the network. The Sentivist Protection Center graphically and textually presents correlated and prioritized, asset-vulnerability profiles for the security manager to act upon. Based on Common Vulnerability Exposure (CVE) information, the Sentivist DSA will automatically deploy default signatures to protect key services against these discovered vulnerabilities. NFR Security’s Sentivist product is the only IPS on the market today that addresses the four critical threats that target an enterprise’s network. Sentivist is designed to protect against automated malware using a hybrid detection engine; prevent information leakage through content filtering and policy enforcement; cover the enterprise during the “patch lag window” using vulnerability-based signatures and dynamic shielding of critical vulnerabilities; and finally, profile enterprise changes as they occur and adapt protection parameters accordingly. “According to Gartner, Inc., to be effective, IPSs must be vulnerability-facing, not attack-facing. IPS devices should include multiple algorithms that can block broad classes of attacks and not rely solely on signatures and updates. IPS vendors need to analyze new software vulnerabilities quickly and provide updates to block potential attacks.” Gartner, Inc., “Seven Key Selection Criteria for Network IPS,” Greg Young, November 1, 2004. NFR Security’s contribution to the intrusion prevention industry has been further validated with two recent award wins. In February, Sentivist was named Datamation’s “Product of the Year” in the enterprise security category. In the August 2005 issue of InfoWorld magazine, Andre Yee was named a “One to Watch in 2006” for his work in creating new, patent-pending technologies within NFR Security’s Sentivist line of intrusion prevention solutions, including Confidence Indexing and Dynamic Shielding. Sentivist 5.0 with Dynamic Shielding will be available in mid-October. For more information on this product offering, please visit: www.nfr.com. About Sentivist â„?

NFR’s Sentivist uniquely combines multiple best in class security layers to protect business networks against the complex and sophisticated threats of today. Sentivist’s hybrid detection engine commands over eight detection and analysis techniques to uncover and prevent all types of attacks including zero-day or previously unknown attacks and blended attacks like worms and Trojans. Sentivist’s intrusion prevention with patent-pending Confidence Indexing allows security managers to link the business value of an asset with the level of prevention deployed to protect it. Sentivist’s Dynamic Shielding Architecture automatically recognizes attack threat points and dynamically protects those threat points against the inevitable attack. Finally, Sentivist’s Protection Center provides the centralized management and the graphical, real-time, situational awareness required to manage today’s complex enterprise networks.
