Maintenance Pack 3 for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations released
Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions that protect against viruses, spam, Trojans, spyware and hacker attacks, announces the release of Maintenance Pack 3 for Kaspersky(r) Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations. This latest release significantly reduces the demand placed on system resources and network traffic.
Maintenance Pack 3 ensures improved application performance thanks to the optimization of a range of functions, including the capability to create a list of trusted processes. These can then be excluded from the list of processes which need protection, thereby reducing system load.
In addition to a reduction in the demand placed on system resources, Maintenance Pack 3 minimizes network traffic and the space required on the local update server disk. This is due to improvements to the way antivirus databases and program modules are updated. The administrator can now choose updates to antivirus databases and program modules for specific operating systems, eliminating the need to down load updates for operating systems not used on the network. For example, in a Windows environment, only updates for this platform will be downloaded.
Maintenance Pack 3 also offers administrators further control over network traffic. Administrators can now balance processor load by inputting parameters via the management console, which was previously only possible via the register or command line. Improvements to the maintenance pack also mean that it is no longer necessary to configure a proxy server when updating from a source within the network, reducing the amount of configuration required.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations is designed to protect workstations running under the Windows operating system. The ergonomic interface provides users with the opportunity to choose one of three pre-defined security levels: maximum protection, recommended protection, or maximum speed. The antivirus solution reliably protects against penetration by any malicious code, and can disinfect malicious code in Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Outlook Express email databases. It scans mail traffic transmitted via SMTP and POP3 regardless of which mail client is used, and can disinfect ZIP, ARJ, CAB, and RAR format archives.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.0 for Windows Workstations not only detects classic malicious code, but also potentially malicious programs such as riskware and spyware. Such programs are designed to provide remote tracking and administration of victim machines. Kaspersky Anti-Virus uses extended databases containing riskware signatures to protect users and are provided as part of the standard update package.
