Bluesocket Ships BlueSecure Access Point 1500

London August 31, 2005 Bluesocket, Inc., (www.bluesocket.com) the leader in open wireless security and management solutions, today announced the new BlueSecureâ„? Access Point 1500, an 802.11 a/b/g access point (AP) that brings a new level of ease-of-use to enterprise WLANs, is now shipping. The new AP was introduced in May at Interop as part of an expanded family of products that includes access points that require zero configuration and the industry’s first centralised RF sensor.

Delivery of the BlueSecure Access Point 1500 comes at a time of extraordinary growth in the WLAN market. According to a recent Dell’Oro Group report, “Wireless LAN Report: Five Year Forecast 2005 – 2009” published July 2005, “Unit shipments of Access Points/Bridges – Enterprise (Dependent + Independent) are projected to increase from 2.0M units in 2005 to 12.5M units in 2009.”

Bluesocket has been recognised as a market-leading security solution that interoperates with any vendor’s AP. However, customers have consistently asked for access points that are simple to deploy and maintain, yet provide support for all of the 802.11 radio, QoS and security standards. Bluesocket will continue to support any vendor’s access points and even wired traffic, but now customers have the option to add a higher level of WLAN functionality by incorporating the BlueSecure Access Point 1500 into their existing infrastructure.

The main feature of the BlueSecure Access Point is ease of use through Bluesocket’s Zero-Config technology. For years, deployment of multiple Access Points has required manual configuration and “touching” of every AP. This adds time and complexity to installation, maintenance and raises the likelihood of configuration errors.

The BlueSecure Access Point 1500 allows administrators to simply plug in the AP and not worry about configuration, individual firmware updates and having to re-configure their existing wired infrastructure with wireless VLANs or special routing. BlueSecure Access Points will automatically locate a BlueSecure Controller, update their configuration/firmware and tunnel all their traffic over existing infrastructure without changes.

“Our expanded portfolio was developed as a result of customer feedback to meet demanding requirements to secure and simplify complex wireless networks,” said Ralph Calistri, CEO of Bluesocket. “Bluesocket will continue to be a leader in the WLAN market because our products are based on open standards, as they always have been. We continue to deliver on our promise of providing market-leading solutions and choices for our customers, as we participate in this significant WLAN growth market.”
