Symantec Releases New Version Of Network Intrusion Detection Software Solution
Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC), the global leader in information security, today announced the new version of its network intrusion detection software solution, Symantec Network Security 4.0, which provides multi-gigabit intrusion detection, scalable centralized management and advanced security intelligence to protect against threats and intrusions. “Medium and large enterprises require sophisticated intrusion protection that can outpace new and emerging threats while protecting critical business assets,” said Greg Gotta, vice president of product delivery, Symantec Corp. “With its combination of detection technologies, scalable management and proactive response features, Symantec Network Security 4.0 provides extensive protection against today’s most malicious threats.”
At the core of Symantec Network Security 4.0 is the innovative Intrusion Mitigation Unified Network Engine (IMUNE), which combines multiple detection technologies to protect customers against intrusions and malicious code, network infrastructure attacks, application exploits, scans, probes, denial-of-service attempts, backdoors, buffer overflow attempts and blended threats such as MS Blaster and SQL Slammer. In addition, easy-to-use signature and policy creation tools enable users to extend and tailor protection specifically to the user’s network and applications.
Symantec Network Security 4.0 software, along with Symantec Network Security 7100 Series appliances, are centrally managed through the Symantec Network Security Management Console. The scalable security management console supports large, distributed enterprise deployments and provides comprehensive configuration and policy management of multiple devices, real-time threat analysis, enterprise reporting and flexible visualization. The Console is capable of managing both the software and appliances simultaneously.
To alleviate the burden of event management, Symantec Network Security 4.0 employs a state-of-the-art analysis and correlation engine to dramatically reduce the effort and time often required to identify threats by refining alerts down to relevant information, providing attack awareness without data overload.
Symantec Network Security 4.0 also now provides a comprehensive policy management feature, which allows organizations to quickly and easily tailor protection based on specific business needs using one of the predefined detection policies or creating custom policies. Customers have the ability to individually control logging and auto-response behaviour per threat based on threat category, severity, intent, confidence rating and profile of protected resources.
To ensure the most up-to-date protection and reduce total cost of ownership, Symantec Network Security 4.0 allows organizations to download Symantec Security Response’s most current security updates through Symantec LiveUpdate, providing customers real-time protection against the latest threats. Symantec Security Response, the world’s leading Internet security research and support organization, leverages sophisticated threat and early warning systems to provide customers with comprehensive, global, 24×7 Internet security expertise to proactively guard against today’s blended Internet threats.
