Sygate Teams With Aruba To Eliminate Rogue Devices From Wi-Fi Networks

Fremont, CA -November 15, 2004 – Sygate Technologies and Aruba Wireless Networks (Aruba) today announced customized integration between Sygate’s leading endpoint security solutions and Aruba’s new grid controller systems. The Sygate/Aruba joint development ensures that any Wi-Fi user connecting to the network service grid using the Aruba system – whether connecting from the corporate LAN, from Starbucks, or home – is in a trusted state before it is granted network access.

Sygate ensures that all devices, managed, consultant, or guest, are in continuous compliance with security policies. By integrating with Aruba, Sygate extends its compliance guarantee to devices that connect wirelessly. Without this integrated approach, devices can connect to enterprise networks unencrypted, missing patches, or with disabled anti-virus protection over rogue access points. This is a dangerous security threat, exposing the enterprise to hackers, thieves and spies. Organizations such as Dartmouth College are using the joint solution to ensure their wireless networks remain free from compromise.

“Sygate and Aruba make it possible for us to centralize security management for our wired and wireless networks,” said, Bob Johnson, director of Network Services, Dartmouth College. “Using an integrated solution will ensure that our wireless policies are automatically enforced and that users accessing the network — regardless of where they are or how they are connecting — are in a trusted state and compliant with Dartmouth security policies. It’s this level of control over network integrity that enables Dartmouth to fully leverage the benefits of wireless technology.”

“Partnering with Sygate gives our customers the ability to securely leverage the business advantages and freedom offered by wireless networks,” said Keerti Melkote, co-founder and vice president of Product Management at Aruba. “The openness associated with wireless networks places the endpoint at a high risk for compromise. Together, Sygate and Aruba now provide a unified system that addresses all the components of wireless security without having to sacrifice any of the benefits of mobility.”

Pre-defined security policies, such as up-to-date anti-virus software, patches, encryption, or endpoint firewall rules are created using Sygate’s flagship endpoint security product, Sygate Secure Enterprise (SSE). When a mobile user enters the network, SSE initiates 802.1X authentication on the Aruba grid controller. Once a user is authenticated, Sygate enforces the security & remediation policies that have been defined by the security administrator within SSE. Aruba’s grid controller then uses this information to provide specific user-based mobile network firewall policies. If an endpoint is not compliant, the user can either be denied access, quarantined into a user group that has restricted access privileges or redirected to a remediation server.

To prevent proprietary information from leaving the enterprise through third -party owned endpoints such as kiosks, employee owned desktops or laptops, or partner or consultant-owned equipment, Aruba can use their web authentication portal to launch Sygate On-Demand (SODA) directly from its grid controller. SODA provides the same robust policy enforcement and remediation capabilities delivered by SSE on an on-demand basis by downloading a virtual agent onto third party devices. The virtual agent verifies the security integrity of a device, creates an encrypted virtual desktop environment while the user is connected to the network, and then erases the data from the system upon termination of the session.

“The Sygate/Aruba combined solution addresses customers requirements for a complete wired and wireless security solution, “said John De Santis, CEO, Sygate. “We have many large enterprise customers in common with Aruba, and this partnership will deliver substantial value to them by providing a security strategy that addresses an increasingly mobile network environment.”
