Cyberguard’s Webwasher Fills Gap In Internet Explorer Hole
Boca Raton, Fla. (November 9, 2004) – Security advisors are warning of a hole uncovered in Microsoft(r) Internet Explorer (IE). The newly reported weakness allows threats to enter computers through infected Web pages or through HTML e-mail viewed in applications that use Internet Explorer for displaying Web pages such as Outlook, Outlook Express or Lotus Notes. CyberGuard Corporation (Nasdaq:CGFW), a provider of proven, intelligent, security solutions that protect business-critical assets at global 2,000 organizations and government entities worldwide, prevents attacks that might leverage the vulnerability with its Webwasher Content Security Management (CSM) solution.
Webwasher’s CSM solution proactively secures networks against common threats regardless of point of origin. Positive traffic is scanned and reconfigured before entering the network; harmful files are filtered before any negative impact can occur. In relation to the fresh IE hole, the proactive scanner detects and filters harmless HTML pages on HTTP or HTTPS servers and HTML formatted e-mails. While Microsoft has not yet issued a new patch to protect users from this hole, tests have shown that CyberGuard customers deploying the latest Webwasher technology are secure.
“Our customers demand intelligent, proactive security,” states Horst Joepen, president of CyberGuard’s Webwasher division. “They do not want to wait and see if their network is compromised. Our solution allows them to carry out their business and stay ahead of the latest security loopholes.”
Proactive filtering technology in Webwasher version 5.1 protects against malicious files and is part of Webwasher Antivirus and Webwasher Content Protection products.
